Peacocks

Did you know that a male peacock or sometimes called a peafowl has been valued for its beautiful tail feathers.  These feathers are used by this creature for courtship purposes and to express pride.  The brilliant spots on the feathers are called eyes and these eyes personally are my favorite feature on these feathers.

On the other hand the female peacock or peafowl’s feathers are much duller and are mostly brown in color with pale under parts with some green colors in the neck. The female bird does not have the long feather at the upper tail as their male counterparts.

There are several species of the peacock there is the Indian Peafowl with is iridescent in color with blue and green on its neck and breast. Another species is the Green Peafowl and it is very different from the Indian Peafowl.  In this species the male has a gold and green plumage with an erect crest.  Also the
wings are black with sheen of blue in them.

The peacock will shed his tail feathers during the molting season and this will reveal their gray color tail that is hidden from view under their train.
